AmeriCorps VISTA

AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.  Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.  http://www.nationalservice.gov/programs/americorps/americorps-vista

Recruiter

As a VISTA Leader, you must take on those six roles. I have grown both personally and professionally by strengthing my skills as an ambassador, facilitor/educator, mentor, liaison, resource generator, and recruiter. I am responsible for supporting a group of seven VISTA members and eight supervisors throughout the community taking part in the UW-Parkside VISTA Project. My goal is to ensure overall project stability during the year of service and organization sustainability for after each VISTA member is gone. It is a challenging task, but very rewarding when you see the impact VISTA members are having in your community.

AmeriCorps VISTA has allowed me to connect with so many different people from around the United States. Each and every one of these people are working to make a positive impact in their communities and I'm proud to be part of it.
